2019 Native Broadcast Summit Featured Speaker

FLAGSTAFF, AZ – Crystal Echo Hawk, a longtime advocate for Native Americans and founder of the new nonprofit, IllumiNative will be the keynote speaker at the 2019 Native Broadcast Summit.

A member of the Oklahoma Pawnee Nation, Echohawk’s leadership includes Reclaiming Native Truth, a public opinion research project designed to help change the narrative about Native peoples. Echohawk’s current project IllumiNative, with a mission to change the invisibility, stereotypes, and false narratives about Native Americans, will translate the research into action.

“We are excited to have Crystal Echohawk as our keynote speaker this year. Her research supports the mission of our Native broadcast network across Indian Country who have led the charge in narrative change on radio and television for decades. Tribal broadcast airwaves feature stories, songs, news, and information about Tribal Nations and their citizens. We’ve known all along that we have the agency and power to tell our own stories and now we have research to back it up. Our broadcasters are interested in how we can support this movement nationwide,” explains Loris Taylor, President and CEO of Native Public Media.

Echohawk will help to frame the Summit conversation by addressing the plenary during the two-day Summit at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino in Chandler, Arizona, April 24 and 25, 2019. Over one hundred broadcasters and media makers serving Indian Country are expected to attend the annual Summit.
