NPM's Station Support Team Visits KTDB to Deliver CSG Compliance Training

PINEHILL, NM – Native Public Media staff Joseph Begay and Elyse Dempsey, were delighted to start the first day of March with a visit to the KTDB radio station in Pinehill, New Mexico.

Begay and Dempsey work together to provide customized Underwriting 101 training and a financial review of the station’s Community Service Grant (CSG) received from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

No strangers to the Native radio network, the NPM staff were welcomed with a smile, a handshake and "Yá'át'ééh!" (a traditional Navajo greeting) by Barbara Marie, a radio broadcast veteran and KTDB Station Manager for over 40 years.

On this day, the dedicated staff of KTDB were joined by individuals from other departments that work closely with the station including Information Technology and the Ramah Navajo School Board, Inc., the station's licensee. Training sessions offered by NPM are designed for station staff, volunteers, governing board members, financial officers and anyone associated with the station to aid in fostering a coordinated understanding of broadcast compliance.

Speaking to the day’s training success, School Board Member Maxine Coho commented, "[This was] very valuable information for our organization since we operate KTDB. I was happy to be included in the training."

Both Begay and Dempsey agree the dedicated staff of KTDB, since 1972, are continuing a proud legacy of developing and delivering cultural programming and content in the Navajo language to the Pinehill community and beyond.

“We are proud that our training and education helps to keep our stations on-air so that they can continue to do good work for tribal communities,” concludes Dempsey.
