Broadband Advocacy
National Broadband Plan
The Federal Communications Commission released its National Broadband Plan, called “Connecting America.” One of its goals is to bring broadband service to Indian Country.  The 360 page plan, described as a work in progress, includes  a number of specific recommendations on deployment, adoption, access, competition and digital literacy which were submitted in joint comments by Native Public Media, the National Congress of American Indians, the Southern California Tribal Chairmen’s Association’s Tribal Digital Village, and New America Foundation.

 
Broadband Action Agenda
The BROADBAND ACTION AGENDA lists more than 60 key actions, proceedings, and initiatives the Commission intends to undertake over the next year and beyond to implement the recommendations of the National Broadband Plan.
 
Broadband Initiatives Program and Broadband Technology Opportunities Program

FCC Public Notice #5: Comments on Broadband Deployment and Adoption on Tribal Lands JOINT REPLY COMMENTS OF NATIVE PUBLIC MEDIA AND THE NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN INDIANS. 

Native Public Media (“NPM”) and the National Congress of American Indians (“NCAI”) submitted these Joint Reply Comments in response to the Public Notice released September 23, 2009 (“Public Notice #5”). In these Joint Reply Comments, NPM and NCAI
formally submitted the new study of broadband deployment in Indian Country, entitled New Media,
Technology and Internet Use in Indian Country and also respond to several sets of comments filed in response to Public Notice #5.

FCC Public Notice #5: Comments on Broadband Deployment and Adoption on Tribal Lands JOINT COMMENTS OF NATIVE PUBLIC MEDIA AND THE NATIONAL CONGRESS OF AMERICAN INDIANS: BROADBAND FOR TRIBAL NATION BUILDING.

Native Public Media ("NPM") and the National Congress of American Indians (“NCAI”) filed these comments in response to the FCC’s Public Notice #5, seeking comment on the nature of deployment and adoption of broadband on Tribal Lands as part of the National Broadband Plan (“NBP”).   Public Notice #5 cites the prior joint comments of NPM and NCAI in this proceeding which highlighted the lack of data concerning broadband deployment, and the need for further analysis.
